Beach Day Survival Guide: Where to Find Parking and Sand in Sarasota and Charlotte County

You moved here for the turquoise water and the white quartz sand, not to circle a parking lot for forty-five minutes like you're at a crowded mall in December. If you head to the main Siesta Key public beach at 11:00 AM on a weekend, you’re basically asking for a headache.

The Siesta Key Side-Step

Everyone goes to the Main Beach because it has the amenities, but locals know about the numbered access points. Look for Access 2 (Northern end) or the spots along Beach Road between the Village and the Main Pavilion. They are smaller, but if you arrive before 9:00 AM, you're golden.

If the north end is packed, keep driving south to Turtle Beach. The sand isn't that powdery white quartz—it's coarser and grainier—but the parking lot is often half-empty when the main beach is at capacity. Plus, there’s a boat ramp and a campground vibe that feels much more relaxed.

Charlotte County’s Best Kept Secret: Manasota Key

If you want to skip the Sarasota crowds entirely, head south to Englewood. Manasota Key offers four distinct beaches. Manasota Beach at the north end of the key has plenty of parking and a boardwalk, while Blind Pass Beach (also known as Middle Beach) is the ultimate spot for finding shark teeth without the Venice crowds.

Pro tip for Charlotte County: Stump Pass Beach State Park at the very southern tip of the key is spectacular, but the parking lot is tiny. It operates on a 'one out, one in' basis once it fills up. If you aren't there by 9:30 AM, have a backup plan at Englewood Public Beach across the street from the local bars and grills.
