Everyone talks about Siesta Key sand, but I have a secret for you: plenty of my buyers rarely set foot on the beach. They are here for the 'Culture Coast' lifestyle. If your idea of a perfect Saturday involves the Sarasota Opera House rather than a cooler and a sunshade, the neighborhoods surrounding downtown are where you belong.

Moving to Sarasota doesn't have to mean a suburban cul-de-sac. We have distinct, walkable pockets where you can ditch the car and still have a world-class social calendar. Let’s look at the three heavy hitters.

The Rosemary District: Modern & Urban

The Rosemary District is the comeback kid of Sarasota. It’s dense, modern, and incredibly vibrant. You'll find sleek condos and townhomes here, many built within the last five to ten years. It is steps away from the Sarasota Opera and the Florida Studio Theatre.

This is where you live if you want that big-city feel with a tropical humidity. You can walk to the Spice Boys for lunch or grab an artisan coffee before hitting the boutique shops on Main Street. It’s fast-paced for Florida, and people love it.

Laurel Park & Gillespie Park: Character and Greenspace

If you want a house with a soul, Laurel Park is a National Historic District filled with 1920s bungalows and Mediterranean Revival architecture. It is the most charming pocket of downtown, tucked right behind Burns Court. You can walk to the cinema and some of the best French bistros in the city.

Gillespie Park, located just north of Fruitville Road, offers a bit more variety. You’ll see historic homes sitting right next to ultra-modern ‘boxy’ new constructions. With a 10-acre park at its center, it provides a buffer of green space while still being an easy ten-minute walk to the heart of the city.
